Many years ago I was featured in the ‘Diary of an Estate Agent’ in the London Evening Standard.  We thought it would be fun to do a snapshot of a week in the life of a search agent…its certainly never dull!

Tuesday:  We meet up with one of our clients who has just got back from 10 days skiing.  They have now exchanged on their house in London with completion in July so they couldn’t be more motivated!  We start with an outstanding ‘Grand Designs’ style barn complete with pool/gym/jacuzzi suite and over 2 acres of land – it is set in a cluster of character cottages however it has tinted glass in the windows which is perfect as it gives you complete privacy without taking away your view.  We are then off to see an off market house 10 miles up the road, we are first through the door thanks to the agent who contacted us as soon as he heard about it.  Set back in a lovely elevated position with your closest neighbours being some gorgeous Shetland ponies, the house had an abundance of character, light and charm, and couldn’t have been more opposite to the barn.  We then head off to a modern and very spacious converted bungalow with a maize of rooms set in a good plot.  This one left our client cold, character is definitely high on her list but with so little around in her price range, she is keen to see as much as possible.

Wednesday:  Off out again with our client – this time to take a second look at a house they viewed before they went on holiday.  She likes it even more and it feels bigger which is always a good thing!  Spend the rest of the day previewing some houses for the new clients we are taking out for the first time on Saturday.

Thursday: Off to Dorset to meet potential new clients who have driven up from Devon – the sun is shining and we spend most of the journey on hands free speaking to various agents and clients sorting out second viewings and sounding out potential offers.  Wonderful meeting, we hit it off from the moment we meet and left with instructions to act and a date in the diary for their first day out with us. We are really looking forward to finding them a perfect home closer to their son.  Even a slight prang on the way out of the car park didn’t dampen our moods!

Friday: Start the morning with a meeting with a lovely PR lady we have met several times and make some exciting plans for the future.  Off to see two new houses just outside Petersfield – after a slight sat nav set back, we arrive and are happy to see that both are packed with character and potential ( just what these clients want ), with views that would put a smile on your face even on a rainy day like today!  We will report back to them next week – their search is very specific and they know it will take time for the right thing to come along.  Luckily they are not under any pressure to move. Spent the afternoon finalising our itinerary for tomorrow – very excited about the 6 houses we have lined up for these clients – they are moving down from Herts and are keeping very open minded for now so we have put together a complete mix taking in both of the locations they are keen on.

Saturday: A full on day of viewings with lots of laughs along the way – and a possible contender out of the 6 we viewed.  They both put it first on the list – great that they are on the same page as sometimes that isn’t the case. In the meantime, our client has taken her husband for a second look at the barn and the off market house, they call in during the day and have decided out of everything they’ve seen, they are interested in making an offer on the barn so we will be on the phone to the agents ( who had shut at lunchtime :/ ) first thing Monday.  Ended our tour in the pub having a coffee and a debrief a la Phil and Kirsty.  The day ended with a giggle as the husband commented ” Everything feels so much nicer down here in Hampshire, you even get a better class of dog”

Priceless!
