Emsworth is a friendly, attractive and vibrant small town tucked away in the south east corner of Hampshire on the edge of Chichester Harbour, with narrow streets and a busy harbour-side.

Emsworth was originally a small Saxon village.  It was a busy port through the Middle Ages, notably large quantities of wine were imported through Emsworth from Europe.  In the 18th and 19th Century the town was known for ship building, boat building and rope making.

Two mills, built on the tidal millponds,  produced flour which was then transported on by boat to London and other ports.

Emsworth was also well known for its fishing industry, in particular its oyster fishing.  In some places the old oyster beds can still be seen.

Emsworth is very well situated for those people who love the coast and all it has to offer, but still being extremely accessible to the large towns along the South and also good links to London for commuters.  There is a train link to London Victoria, and the A27  runs to the north of the town giving access to Chichester and Brighton to the east and Portsmouth and Southampton to the west, joining with the A3, M3 and M27.

Emsworth is popular with sailors, artists, naturalists and walkers to name but a few, due to the large variety of leisure activities the town has to offer.

The two tidal millponds now play host to a variety of wildlife.  There are many walks, including ‘the oyster trail’ and the town is well known as a thriving sailing community, based around the sailing club.

Other leisure facilities such as theatres, cinemas and sports grounds can be found in the nearby larger towns of Portsmouth and Chichester.

If you are searching for property around Emsworth there are a mix of architectural styles to choose from, and the south west of the town is well placed for an easy walk to both the town an the sea

The town still hosts the traditional shipwrights and chandleries, however the centre now has a host of small specialist shops and many charming pubs and restaurants including a Michelin starred venue on the waterfront.

There are regular markets including a French market, and a popular Food festival which ran until a few years ago is set to be revived soon.
